What is an evangelist?

Ancient manuscripts of the Bible can be found in ancient Greek.

The Greek word for "EVANGELIST" [euaggelistés 2099 in Greek, noun] comes from the Greek word for "to(-announce)-good-news" [euaggelizо́ 2097 in Greek, verb], which comes from the Greek words for "good/well" [eu 2095 in Greek, adverb] and "messenger" [aggelos 32 in Greek, noun].

An "EVANGELIST" can be understood as someone who is here "to(-announce)-good-news", being a "messenger" of "good" news.

In the context of the New Testament in which this Greek word appears, it refers specifically to one who is announcing the good news of Jesus Christ.

Philip the evangelist:

It is written about "PHILIP the EVANGELIST (being (one) of the SEVEN)" (Acts 21:8).

The same Philip as in Acts 6:

What does it mean that PHILIP was one of the SEVEN? Near the beginning of Acts, "widows were-being-overlooked in the daily ministry (of food)" (Acts 6:1), the twelve were not to "be-serving tables" (Acts 6:2) so "SEVEN men" (Acts 6:3) were looked for to be appointed over this need, whom "PHILIP" (Acts 6:5) was one of them.

The same Philip as in Acts 8:

The same PHILIP can be found in Acts 8: "PHILIP, having-gone-down to a city (of) Samaria, WAS-PROCLAIMING THE CHRIST" (Acts 8:5).

This "PHILIP" (Acts 8:5) was not the apostle "PHILIP" (Acts 1:13), but it was the "PHILIP" (Acts 6:5) who was serving tables, as it is written: "(a) great persecution came-about on that day against the church in Jerusalem, and they-were all dispersed throughout the regions (of) Judea and SAMARIA, EXCEPT THE APOSTLES" (Acts 8:1) and we read about "PHILIP, having-gone-down to a city (of) SAMARIA" (Acts 8:5). The "APOSTLES" (Acts 8:1) were not dispersed throughout the regions of SAMARIA like this "PHILIP" (Acts 8:5) was, therefore this PHILIP would have been the "PHILIP" (Acts 6:5) who was serving tables, being among the "SEVEN men" (Acts 6:3): "PHILIP the EVANGELIST (being (one) of the SEVEN)" (Acts 21:8).

What Philip was doing as an evangelist:

What was "PHILIP the EVANGELIST" (Acts 21:8) doing as an EVANGELIST?

It is written that "PHILIP, having-gone-down to a city (of) Samaria, WAS-PROCLAIMING THE CHRIST" (Acts 8:5), "PHILIP (was) ANNOUNCING-THE-GOOD-NEWS ABOUT THE KINGDOM (OF) GOD AND THE NAME (OF) JESUS CHRIST" (Acts 8:12).

Timothy the evangelist:

Paul wrote "(to) Timothy" (2 Timothy 1:2) to "SUFFER-HARDSHIP, do (the) work (of an) EVANGELIST" (2 Timothy 4:5).

Paul wrote to him: "I-am-reminding you to-be-rekindling the gift (of) God which is in you through the laying-on (of) my hands. For God did NOT give us (a) SPIRIT (OF) DREADFULNESS, but (of) power and love and (a) sound-mind. Therefore, DO NOT BE-ASHAMED-OF THE TESTIMONY (OF) OUR LORD nor me His prisoner, but SUFFER-HARDSHIP-WITH (ME FOR) THE GOOD-NEWS according-to (the) power (of) God" (2 Timothy 1:6-8).
