Given, received, having:
Someone can be described as being GIVEN a spiritual gift. For example: "He-GAVE gifts (to) people" (Ephesians 4:8), as "He GAVE some (as) apostles, and some (as) prophets" (Ephesians 4:11). Another example: "the manifestation (of) the Spirit IS-GIVEN (to) each (one) for (our) benefit. For (to) one (a) word (of) wisdom IS-GIVEN through the Spirit" (1 Corinthians 12:7-8).
Someone can be described as having RECEIVED a spiritual gift. For example: "each RECEIVED (a) gift" (1 Peter 4:10).
Someone can be described as HAVING a spiritual gift. For example: "HAVING different gifts according-to the grace having-been-given (to) us" (Romans 12:6).
The gifts of God are without regret:
Paul wrote that "the GIFTS [charisma 5486 in Greek] and the calling (of) God (ARE) WITHOUT-REGRET" (Romans 11:29).
The Greek word for "WITHOUT-REGRET" [ametamelétos 278 in Greek] comes from the opposite of a presumed derivative of the Greek word for "TO-REGRET" [metamelomai 3338 in Greek]. That word is for example used in the following passage: "(The) Lord swore and He will NOT REGRET [metamelomai 3338 in Greek], You (are a) priest to the age" (Hebrews 7:21). In other words, to be "WITHOUT-REGRET" is to not regret a decision, to not change one's mind about it.
In context in Romans 11:29, the gifts of God given were specifically those given to "Israel" (Romans 11:25). But only 13 verses later, Paul mentioned about believers in Christ "having different GIFTS [charisma 5486 in Greek] according-to the grace having-been-given (to) us" (Romans 12:6). This is the same Greek word for GIFTS used earlier: "the GIFTS [charisma 5486 in Greek] and the calling (of) God (are) without-regret" (Romans 11:29).
Judas the Iscariot as an apostle until death:
Judas the Iscariot was an APOSTLE (which is a spiritual gift) until death and was only replaced AFTER his death.
It is written about Judas the Iscariot that he was an apostle (which is a spiritual gift): "the names (of) the twelve APOSTLES are these, first, Simon (the (one) being-called Peter) and Andrew (his brother), and James (the (son of) Zebedee) and John (his brother), Philip and Bartholomew, Thomas and Matthew (the tax-collector), James (the (son of) Alphaeus) and Lebbaeus (the (one) was surnamed Thaddaeus), Simon (the Cananaean) and JUDAS THE ISCARIOT (the (one) also having-handed Him over)" (Matthew 10:2-4).
Yet it is only AFTER the death of Judas the Iscariot that his apostleship was replaced, as it is written about "Judas" (Acts 1:16) that "having-become-prostrate, he-burst-open in the middle and all his inward-parts spilled-out" (Acts 1:18) and so AFTER his death "they-put (forward) two: Joseph (the (one) being-called Barsabbas, who was-called Justus), and Matthias. And having-prayed, they-said, “You, Lord, heart-knower (of) all, appoint (the) one whom You-chose from these two TO-TAKE THE PLACE (OF) THIS MINISTRY AND APOSTLESHIP FROM WHICH JUDAS TURNED-ASIDE TO-GO TO (HIS) OWN PLACE”. And they-gave lots (for) them. And the lot fell upon Matthias, and he-was-added with the eleven APOSTLES" (Acts 1:23-26).
Placed, replaced:
It is written that God PLACED spiritual gifts in the church, as it is written about "gifts" (1 Corinthians 12:31) that "God PLACED some in the church (as) first, apostles; second, prophets; third, teachers; then powers [miracles]; then gifts (of) healings, helps, steerings, kinds (of) tongues" (1 Corinthians 12:28).
The PLACE is generally assigned to SPECIFIC people that one would know who they are, as it is written that "God PLACED SOME in the church (as) first, apostles; second, prophets" (1 Corinthians 12:28). For example in Acts 8, Philip announced the good news to people, but then SPECIFIC people who were apostles had to come down for them to receive the Holy Spirit, as it is written: "the APOSTLES in Jerusalem, having-heard that “Samaria has-accepted the word (of) God”, SENT-FORTH PETER AND JOHN TO THEM, who, having-come-down, prayed for them so-that they-might-receive (the) Holy Spirit." (Acts 8:14-15). Philip did not expect the Holy Spirit to interchangeably according to the need PLACE him suddenly as an apostle to do that.
Someone PLACED can even be REPLACED if they die, as for example it was the case with Judas who was an apostle but only after he died his PLACE was taken by someone else, as it is written: "they-put (forward) two: Joseph (the (one) being-called Barsabbas, who was-called Justus), and Matthias.
Someone can turn aside from their spiritual gift but also rekindle it:
It is possible for someone to TURN ASIDE from their spiritual GIFT, as it is for example written about the "APOSTLESHIP from which JUDAS TURNED-ASIDE" (Acts 1:25).
If someone does not exercise their spiritual gift, they can still REKINDLE it, as Paul wrote to Timothy: "I-am-reminding YOU TO-BE-REKINDLING the GIFT (of) God which is in you through the laying-on (of) my hands" (2 Timothy 1:6).
Indeed, someone is expected to exercise their spiritual gifts.
