How can someone know what spiritual gifts they have

Summary:

Spiritual gifts can be described as being given to those who are in Christ, such that everyone in Christ has spiritual gifts. But not everyone has all the same spiritual gifts, so it makes sense for an individual in Christ to attempt to know what specific spiritual gifts they have. 

There are several ways someone can get to know what spiritual gifts they have. For example:

1) Getting to know what spiritual gifts exist. 

2) Other individuals in Christ can recognize the spiritual gifts someone has.

3) Seeing God working inside the same spiritual gift as another person.

4) Seeing what others may not exercise. 

5) Making sure the conditions to be able to exercise a spiritual gift are met.

How can someone know what spiritual gifts they have:

1) Getting to know what spiritual gifts exist:

Paul wrote: "concerning THE SPIRITUAL (THINGS), brothers, I-do NOT want you TO-NOT-KNOW" (1 Corinthians 12:1). Paul here expressed that he did not want individuals in Christ to not know about the spiritual things, which would include THE SPIRITUAL "GIFTS" (1 Corinthians 12:4) which he started mentioning only 3 verses later. 

Before someone might know the spiritual gifts that they have, they have to get to KNOW what spiritual gifts exist.

2) Other individuals in Christ can recognize the spiritual gifts someone has:

OTHER INDIVIDUALS in Christ CAN RECOGNIZE the spiritual gifts that someone has. 

Paul wrote about his spiritual gift of being an apostle how OTHERS RECOGNIZED IT, as he wrote that "HAVING-RECOGNIZED THE GRACE HAVING-BEEN-GIVEN (TO) ME, JAMES AND CEPHAS AND JOHN, the (ones) having-the-reputation-of being pillars, gave (the) right (hands of) fellowship (to) me and Barnabas, that we (should go) to the Gentiles and they to the circumcised" (Galatians 2:9). 

3) Seeing God working inside the same spiritual gift as another person:

SOME INDIVIDUALS in Christ can have the same spiritual gifts.

Someone can know that God is WORKING a specific spiritual gift IN SOMEONE ELSE, and then come to see that God is WORKING IN THEM THE SAME spiritual gift.

Paul wrote: "HAVING-SEEN THAT I-HAVE-BEEN ENTRUSTED THE GOOD-NEWS (for) the uncircumcised just-as Peter (for) the circumcised, FOR THE (ONE) HAVING-WORKED (IN) PETER FOR (AN) APOSTLESHIP (of) the circumcised WORKED ALSO (IN) ME for the Gentiles" (Galatians 2:7-8).

4) Seeing what others may not exercise:

Someone may ALREADY exercise a specific spiritual gift, without knowing it. 

NOT everyone has all the same spiritual gifts.

Based on this, someone may look at what they are already exercising, including what they may have taken for granted, and see if most people in Christ seem to also exercise that OR NOT. If NOT, this could indicate that a specific grace and spiritual gift is present, which can then be investigated further.

5) Making sure the conditions to be able to exercise a spiritual gift are met:

It can be possible that someone may already have a spiritual gift but that they do not exercise because they do not meet the conditions to be able to exercise it. By making sure that the conditions are met, one may get to know if they do or do not actually have a spiritual gift. Indeed, there can be conditions to be able to exercise a spiritual gift.
